I am Collin Milhous, a designer from Arcadia, California. I am passionate about
graphic design and storytelling. With a background in digital media and web design, I strive to create effective
visual communications through my art. Armed with knowledge of fundamental design skills, I am able to be a
creative problem solver. My interest in art began as a young child. I constantly found myself doodling characters
focusing on facial expressions. By third grade, I began coming up with ideas to create online games. I would
spend hours thinking of characters and storylines. As I grew older, I began creating websites as a hobby. I
taught myself the basics of coding and enjoyed the challenge of putting a website together. My interest in
computer-based art led me to pursue graphic design. After taking my first graphic design class in high school, I
was hooked. Now I realize the importance of entering a career field I am passionate about and find fulfilling.
When working on a design, I start with an open mind and think about what I want to accomplish. What message do I
want to convey? As I begin working on the design, I relax and submerge myself into my work. This becomes an
escape from the world. It becomes a time to block out the outside noise and simply focus on the design itself. I
think about what colors and patterns I will use. I like to focus on clean and orderly designs. How do I know when
a design is complete? I feel satisfied with a sense of pride. This sense of satisfaction is what is meaningful.
Having the ability to contribute to society through my designs gives me purpose. I have found my life to be a
journey filled with many challenges. Through my designs, I have found a way to turn setbacks and frustrations
into some meaningful purpose. My mission is to learn from life’s challenges. I try to take very little for
granted and look around me for inspiration. I hope to be able to inspire others someday to focus on what is
possible instead of impossible. Life is an unpredictable journey. I strive to be true to myself and not conform
to someone else’s style, but also be open to new inspiration and be willing to learn from other artists and
designers.
